The Stuttgart Metalworking Exhibition (AMB), one of the world’s five major metal cutting technology trade fairs and Germany’s premier metalworking event, was held from September 10 to 14. It served as a platform for showcasing products, technologies, and innovative exchanges. Stuttgart, located in Baden-Württemberg, is a hub for Europe’s metalworking industry, accounting for over 40% of metal processing and manufacturing, with machine tool production representing 45% of Germany’s total output. It is regarded as the core region of Germany’s metalworking sector.

The exhibition brought together 1,244 exhibitors from 28 countries, focusing on machine tools, production systems, control and drive systems, automation solutions, and related measurement and testing technologies. The displays covered all areas of metalworking technology, including products, services, and innovative concepts. Key themes included Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, automation, digitalization, and energy efficiency. Participants were primarily active in mechanical engineering, metal processing, automotive manufacturing, metal construction, and tool and mold making.

In response to the Industry 4.0 theme, a “Smart Factory” zone was set up to demonstrate the broad process chain of workpiece production. Companies showcased specific production stages as part of a digital network, providing both real and virtual explanations of how workflows evolve from start to finish. The special area dedicated to the umati (Universal Machine Technology Interface) initiative highlighted an ecosystem formed by the integration and interaction of systems, interfaces, machinery, robots, and artificial intelligence.

The exhibitor lineup was diverse, including large international corporations and innovative small and medium-sized enterprises. The Taiwan Machine Tool & Accessory Builders’ Association (TMBA) organized 23 member companies to participate, including YCM, Buffalo Machinery, Taichung Machine Tool, Awea Mechantronic, Fair Friend Group, Kao Ming Machinery, Hiwin Technologies, Neway Machine Tool, Ming Yang Machinery, Shang Yi Industrial, Shih Sheng Precision, PMI Group, Shin Yuan Industrial, and Hexin Precision. Their exhibits featured the latest technologies for optimizing production processes and innovative applications of digital technology, with a particular emphasis on customized solutions tailored to the European market to meet diverse customer needs.

Taiwanese machine tools hold a significant position in the global market, with exports to Europe accounting for about 20%, mainly to the Netherlands, Germany, and Italy. Through this exhibition, Taiwanese manufacturers aim to further expand their market share in Europe, promote their technological strength and innovation capabilities, and enhance visibility and competitiveness in the international arena.

Florian Stegmann, State Secretary and Head of the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg, and Roland Breinroth, Managing Director of Messe Stuttgart, jointly inaugurated the AMB exhibition.
