The 20th Vietnam Ho Chi Minh International Precision Engineering, Machine Tools, and Metalworking Exhibition (MTA Vietnam 2024) was held from July 2 to 5, attracting 15,552 visitors—a record high. The show featured machine tools, metalworking, CNC programming, robotics, automation, and 3D printing, along with seminars on smart factories and AI applications. Nearly 500 exhibitors from 23 countries participated, with Taiwan’s pavilion standing out as 30 companies joined the event. Many exhibitors expressed plans to attend future shows, highlighting Vietnam’s growing market potential.

On July 18, the Machine Tool Association visited Yingxi Precision Industry to observe its achievements in smart manufacturing and low-carbon transformation. Yingxi specializes in precision nut development and established the world’s only national-level testing lab for such products. The company promotes digital management, service-oriented manufacturing, and automated production. It also values academia-industry collaboration and social responsibility, offering scholarships and organizing volunteer activities to give back to society.

CIMES 2024 was held in Beijing, focusing on digitalization, high-end development, and green manufacturing, with about 1,000 exhibitors and 70,000 visitors. China emphasizes precision, boosting domestic measurement equipment, while southern regions demand mid-to-high-end machines. Taiwanese brands remain favored for key components. The Bureau of Foreign Trade, together with industry associations, organized a delegation to participate in EXPOMAQ 2024 in Mexico. Twenty-one Taiwanese companies showcased smart manufacturing and precision machinery technologies, strengthening Taiwan-Mexico market ties. The opening press conference featured five leading firms presenting innovative products and collaborating with local businesses to build supply chains, fostering bilateral industrial cooperation and laying the foundation for future development in smart manufacturing and innovative industries.

The event also included a keynote by Hao Xu-Lie, who shared three core principles—“Expand Boundaries, Begin with the End in Mind, and Action is King.” Through humor and practical insights, Hao explained the essence of logical thinking and wealth awareness, emphasizing that knowledge becomes valuable only when remembered and applied, leaving participants deeply inspired.

The 2024 Taiwan International Machine Tool Show (TMTS) was held in Taipei for the first time, featuring 600 exhibitors and 3,350 booths, attracting nearly 70,000 visitors and buyers from 68 countries, with an estimated business value of USD 1.5 billion. Under the theme “Dual-Axis Smart Manufacturing, Sustainable Future,” the event promoted digital and green transformation, introduced the Umati interface zone and energy-saving label evaluation, and hosted forums and industry-academia tours. TMTS showcased ecosystem solutions and sustainability efforts, earning strong praise from exhibitors, with 83% expressing willingness to participate again in 2026.

In 2023, Taiwan’s machine tool industry showed resilience amid global economic uncertainty, despite overall declines in exports and revenue. Some companies achieved growth against the trend. Industry focus is shifting from automotive to electric vehicles, semiconductors, and aerospace, with equipment design moving toward smart, low-carbon, and customized solutions. Looking ahead to 2024, challenges and opportunities coexist. Emerging markets and carbon-neutral policies will drive demand for energy-efficient equipment and green transformation, offering new growth momentum for the industry.

The 28th Malaysia International Machine Tools and Metalworking Technology Exhibition (METALTECH 2024) was held from May 15 to 18 at MITEC, attracting over 23,000 visitors from nearly 50 countries—a record high. The event covered 25,000 square meters with 449 exhibitors from 12 nations. Taiwan Machine Tool Association organized a delegation of five companies to participate. Representatives from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia and the Taiwan Trade Center visited Taiwanese exhibitors to discuss Taiwan-Malaysia trade and industry cooperation, aiming to create more business opportunities in the Malaysian market.
